Dr. T Appleton

Dr. Appleton received his PhD in Physiology in 2007 in the laboratory of Dr. Frank Beier working on pathophysiological mechanisms of cartilage damage in animal models of post-traumatic OA. Their work identified a signaling axis involving transforming growth factor alpha (TGFa) and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2) in early post-traumatic OA. He continued to work in OA research while completing his medical degree, residency in internal medicine and fellowship in Rheumatology at Western University.

As a Clinician Scientist member of the Division of Rheumatology at St. Joseph’s Health Care, London and Western University, Dr. Appleton provides clinical service to patients with inflammatory rheumatologic disorders and is supervising a translational biology research program in early OA. One of the major foci of the research program includes a prospective, longitudinal cohort of patients with early OA of various phenotypes. His current research interests include cell-mediated tissue damage, synovitis and inflammatory features of OA, and defining the pathophysiology of different clinical OA phenotypes.

PHILOSOPHY AND ABOUT US

We are a group of medical providers (physicians, allied health professionals, medical researchers) with a passion for working together in a patient-centric, innovative care model for chronic inflammatory diseases. We strive to be authentic in our service but not perfect (we are human after all!). Service to us means cultivating long-term relationships with our patients, educating and empowering patients, and keeping our knowledge as cutting-edge (in tech and innovation) as possible.

Chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, chronic heart and lung diseases are the leading cause of death, disability, and rising health care costs. We specialize in Regenerative and Transitional medicine. We offer acupuncture and chiropractic services. In our local health network (the central LHIN), we have a huge burden of chronic diseases and it is projected to grow. Our mission is to demonstrate that our new model of care allows for an efficient, sustainable, patient-first delivery mechanism around core inflammatory conditions, particularly inflammatory arthritis.

Our three pillars are our unique Model of Care, a Research and Development arm, and a unit for Cutting-Edge Therapies. We believe in an equitable, comprehensive, balanced way of practicing medicine.

Above all, we believe whole-heartedly in service to our communities and our patients. We are grateful to be providing you care.

REGENERATIVE AND
TRANSITIONAL MEDICINE

Regenerative medicine is a new and revolutionary field of medicine that involves clinical solutions to heal and repair damaged tissues in the human body due to aging, trauma or disease. The solutions involve using protein and stem cell therapy to promote healing, regulate cellular functions, immunomodulation and regenerate damaged tissue.

Transitional Medicine is a new and rapidly growing field of medicine aimed at accelerating the implementation of new diagnostic and treatment methods, in a safe and efficient way. Those methods would take years to decades to reach the intended patients and communities. Transitional Medicine uses a multidisciplinary, collaborative, safe and evidence-based approach to expedite bench-to-bedside delivery of medical advancement.
